Blotter: 3 Teens Busted for Smoking Pot in Car
In a separate incident, a woman was arrested and charged in connection with driving under the influence of alcohol.
The following information was supplied by the Springfield Police Department. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
Drug Possession—Crowell Park on North Avenue at about 11:43 p.m. on Dec. 5. While on patrol, Patrolman Andrew McKinney observed a suspicious occupied vehicle parked in the dark back portion of the parking lot. McKinney approached the vehicle and the vehicle's lights turned on and attempted to back out of the parking spot it was in. Three men were seen inside the vehicle and as McKinney approached the vehicle he detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside.
Further investigation showed that two 19 year olds and an 18 year old, all from Folcroft, were in possession of a quantity of suspected marijuana and articles of drug paraphernalia. The three men were taken into custody and transported to the Springfield Police Station. They were all charged with various violations of the health and safety act and township parks violations. The incident is under investigation by Detective Robert Nutley.
DUI—S. Swarthmore Avenue and Farmhouse Circle at about 5:02 p.m. on Dec. 9. Springfield Police received a report of a reckless driver in the area. Patrolman Andrew Graff responded and located the vehicle and the driver in the 100 block of Waverly Avenue. Further investigation showed that the driver, a 48-year-old Glenolden woman was intoxicated. She was taken to Springfield Hospital, had blood drawn, and was then transported to the Springfield Police Station. The woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and related motor vehicle violations. She was later released to a relative. Detective Bridget McCarthy is handling the investigation.
