Juvenile Burglary Suspects Lead Police on Foot Chase
Three juveniles were allegedly squatting in a Powell Road home when a caretaker arrived to find them.
Springfield Township police received a report May 22 at 3:11 p.m. of a burglary at a home in the 400 block of Powell Road and that the suspects had fled out of the rear of the home.
Officers responded and investigation showed the home's caretaker had arrived to find three juveniles inside. She reported that it appeared as if they had been there for a few days.
The juveniles fled out a rear sliding door upon being noticed. The area was checked and the suspects were located on a street a few blocks away but fled upon seeing the officers. They were chased through the yards of surrounding homes until eventually apprehended by Patrolman Patrick McKenna and Patrolman Joseph Prendergast.
Two boys from Springfield, a 13 year-old and a 14 year-old, and a 14 year-old girl from Drexel Hill were identified by the caretaker, taken into custody and brought to the Springfield Police Station.
They will be petitioned to juvenile court in Media and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy and other related charges. The incident is under investigation by Detective Robert Nutley.
The juveniles were all later released to relatives.
