Pedestrian Struck by Car; DUI Charges Follow

Springfield Police say It happened it in the middle of rush hour.

A Philadelphia man was charged in connection with driving under the influence after striking a pedestrian with his vehicle, according to Springfield Township Police.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Lukoil, at the 1100 block of Baltimore Pike, at about 4:49 p.m. on Oct. 5, according to police.

Sgt. Michael Vaughan arrived at the scene to find a 21-year-old man lying in the parking lot and the striking vehicle was still on the scene, according to police.

The 21-year-old man was transported to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

An investigation showed that the driver of the striking vehicle, Michael Lincoln, 28, of Philadelphia, was allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance, according to police. 

Lincoln was taken into custody, refused to have blood drawn, and was transported to the Springfield Police Station.

Lincoln was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and related motor vehicle violations. He was later released to a relative.

The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.
