Springfield Deputy Fire Chief Michael Huczko said a lightning strike may be what caused extensive damage to a house in the 100 block of S. Norwinden Drive shortly after 2:40 a.m. Friday morning.

There was heaving fire upon arrival, Huckzo said. All occupants of the residence escaped without injury. At this time the fire is under investigation.

It took fire crews 45 minutes to an hour before the fire was brought under control, Huckzo said.

Springfield Fire Company 44, Ambulance 44-7 and Medic 106 responded along with emergency personnel Clifton Heights, Garrettford-Drexel Hill and Holmes.
