Video: Lightning Causes House Fire

Lightning strike from early morning thunderstorm causes extensive damage to a home.

Springfield Deputy Fire Chief Michael Huczko said a lightning strike may be what caused extensive damage to a house in the 100 block of S. Norwinden Drive shortly after 2:40 a.m. Friday morning.

There was heaving fire upon arrival, Huckzo said. All occupants of the residence escaped without injury. At this time the fire is under investigation.

It took fire crews 45 minutes to an hour before the fire was brought under control, Huckzo said.
