Grab the Kids & Go: Charity, Community, Food, Sports

Embrace the community this weekend with these great events for kids and family.

There is a lot going on, so don't miss out on all the activity. Get your family involved in the Cub Scouts or join the fight against cancer at Old Navy this weekend. Try some great food, burgers or pizza. Join your community and cheer on your favorite sports teams. Have a great weekend.  

When: Friday, Sept. 16 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Where: 400 Lynbrooke Rd.

Why Go: Pack 503 invites boys in grades 1 through 5 to take part in Cub Scouts. Scouts will be able to take part in character building activities from hikes to archery. Other opportunities include camping, field trips and community service. The whole family is invited to St. Matthews Church to check out with the Cub Scouts have to offer as well as fun and refreshments. Pack 503 recruits from Scenic Hills Elementary School but all are welcome to attend.

When: Friday, Sept. 16 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Where: 542 Wesley Rd.

Why Go: Pack 240 invites boys in grades 1 through 5 to take part in Cub Scouts. Participants will have the opportunity to go camping, play sports, be in the pinewood derby, work on community projects, trips, parades and more.  Pack 240 recruits from Sabold Elementary School but all are welcome.  

Price: Free

When: Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Where: , 400 S State Rd.

Why Go: Old Navy in Marple Crossroads shopping center is sponsoring Alex's Lemonade Stand. Stop by and donate to help fight cancer!

Price: Open to the public

When: Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18

Where: Jake's Wayback Burgers, 503 Baltimore Pike

Why Go: Jake's Wayback Burgers' new location in Springfield invites all to their Grand Opening Celebration. On Saturday, the event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony. A Burger Eating Contest will take place between noon and 2 p.m. WOGL 98.1 will be there from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. following the contest with a prize wheel. The festivities will continue on Sunday with Family Day.  Activities will include free kid's meals, a coloring contest and face painting.

When: Sunday, Sept. 18 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Where: , 1178 Baltimore Pike

Why Go: Peace A Pizza is having a coupon to support the Delco Interfaith Hospitality Network.  Participants can present this coupon when paying for their meal and Peace a Pizza will donate 20 percent of the proceeds go to the Delco Interfaith Hospitality Network.
