1. Manayunk on Ice

• When: February 8 - 10
• Where: Main Street, Manayunk
• Why Go: The weekend begins with a huge ice bonfire on Friday night. Throughout the weekend master ice carvers will carve large ice sculptures live on Main Street, Fear No Ice will perform a theatrical ice carving show for visitors, and ice carving battles will put two ice carvers up against each other to battle it out for the best ice sculpture carved in just 30 minutes.

2. Chinese New Year Community Gala

• When: Sunday, Feb. 10 from 1 - 5 p.m.
  
• Where: Great Valley High School 225 Phoenixville Pike, Malvern
• Why Go: Ring in the Year of the Snake with folk dances, traditional Chinese music, Peking Opera sword dance, and songs and poems.  A Culture Fair with a dozen game and craft stations and cultural displays will be open from 3 - 5 p.m.  Food and merchandise also onsite.  Hosted annually by the Main Line Chinese Culture Center.  For more info, visit www.mlccc.org or call 215-490-6074.

3. Chinese New Year Celebration

• When: Saturday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. 
• Where: Starts at Margaret Kuo's Restaurant, 4 W. State St. in Media
• Why Go: Celebrate the "Year of the Snake" with Philadelphia's premiere "Lion Dancers" Hung Gar Kung Fu Academy as the parade, drums and music span State Street. The Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival (marking the end of winter and welcoming the spring), is the most important social and economic holiday in China, according to History.com.

4. 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll

• When: Saturday, Feb. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m.
  
• Where: throughout downtown Media
• Why Go: The featured artist is Photographer José Sevillano and featured musician is Pianist and Vocalist Reverend Chris Marsceill who will perform his New Orleans jazz piano style at 7 p.m. at Franklin Mint Credit Union.

5. Friends Central Upper School presents: “8” The Play

• When: Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m.
• Where: Friends' Central School 1101 City Ave, Wynnewood
• Why Go: According to American Foundation for Equal Rights, “8” The Play,  “demystifies the debate around marriage equality by chronicling the landmark trial of Perry v. Schwarzenegger. Using the actual court transcripts from the landmark federal trial of California's Proposition 8 and first-hand interviews, '8' shows both sides of the debate in a moving play." There will be a question and answer session and refreshments after the play.
