1. PCCH Presents: Rock-N-Roast

  • When: Saturday, Nov. 10 from 5 - 9 p.m.
  • Where: Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill 8855 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia
  • Why Go: Enjoy a night of good music, food and fun, all for a great cause. Featuring the RECKLESS AMATEURS with Rebecca & David Thornburgh offering a great blend of Folk, Rock and Blues.  All this is accompanied by a delicious pork roast dinner featuring authentic barbeque from Jimmy's BBQ of Malvern. All proceeds will benefit charitable causes such as the Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry, Northwest Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Networks, St. Catherine Laboure Medical Clinic, AchieveAbility, Habitat for Humanity and more.
  • Cost: $25 for adults, $10 for child, or $75 for family.

2. Annual Holiday Carnival and Santa's Arrival

  • When: Saturday, Nov. 10 from Noon - 2 p.m.
  • Where: Springfield Mall
  • Why Go: The Annual Holiday Carnival features games, crafts, a cast of merry characters and of course, Santa's arrival! The first 100 children to visit Santa receive a special gift!
  • Cost: Free

3. 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll

  • When: Saturday, November 10, 6-9 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown Media Borough
  • Why Go: On the 2nd Saturday of every month, businesses on and around State Street in Media stay open late as part of a free arts event. Shops, galleries and cafes host local musicians or display the work of local artists.
  • Cost: Free

4. West Chester Veterans Day Parade

  • When: Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.
  • Where: Along Gay Street departing from Darlington
  • Why Go: Honor American veterans by attending the Veterans Day Parade. The memorial ceremony begins around 3 p.m. at Gay & Adams Streets. Sponsored by the West Chester Veterans Council.
  • Cost: Free

A locally run store has a higher turnaround in seed and suet, meaning the product is fresher. Stay away from "big box" discount stores. Their seed and suet may sit on store shelves for months, letting the products turn rancid. Also, big box stores often by seed mixtures that contain fillers such as red millet. Backyard birds do not eat red millet (they do love white millet, however). If you think you're saving money when you buy a seed mixture containing red millet, it's really not a bargain. Shop locally! And be a smart shopper!

Dove's eat red millet. Your right about red millet in most seed bags which are over half the seeds,Read More what a waste. We buy big bags of parrot seeds & they to are filled with filler things that they don't even eat. I don't like the fact that the seed bags can't be seen through anymore. Easy way to rip people off.

Get you lox/nova from Costco. It's almost half the price and much tastier and if they ever have aRead More recall, they notify you, individually, and you don't need a receipt to get cash back. Once I discovered how good their smoked salmon tastes, and I get it at such a great price, I never will get it from anywhere else. One catch... you have to join the Costco club but man, it's worth it. I used to buy 1/2 lbs from Genardi's and when they got bought out by Giant, I had to look elsewhere. Now that I found Costco, I buy 1 1/2 lbs at about the same price and it's even more delicious. Happy Bar Mitzvah.
