Acme Grocery Chain Sold

The brand has a strong presence all over SE Pennsylvania, but its future is unclear...for now.

Acme Markets, which operates grocery stores throughout Southeast Pennsylvania, including in Springfield and Broomall, is among several chains the Supervalu company has sold to investment consortium Cerberus Capital Management, Supervalu announced Thursday.

There was no announcement from Supervalu or Cerberus about how the sale will affect the future of the grocery stores.

Regionally, Acme has lots of stores including a store in Bala Cynwyd (where a shopper won $1 million last year) and a Bryn Mawr store that reopened just last year after top-to-bottom renovations.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in July that moves by Supervalu executives seemed to indicate they were looking for buyers for Acme and their other grocery "banners".

Larry Collins (ShopRite Eddystone) desparately wants Acme in Clifton Heights for a huge ShopRite. He wanted Genuardi's Springfield, but was outbid by the low-down foreigners from amsterdam who own Giant. Clifton Heights ShopRite will be GREAT!! ShopRite locally owned by AMERICANS!! Better prices, too!!

PS Broomall (Lawrence Park) is too close to Walmart and two Giants. It makes a difference where you shop, pray for ShopRite, please. Acme, granite run, is a very big store, however wegmans is building soon in Concordville, which is too close. Clifton Heights ShopRite next to Home Depot will be unionized and contribute big time to DELCO.

PriceRite (owned by Wakefern) is right around the corner from the Clifton Heights Acme, so isn't that too close? And we can do without the insults directed toward Ahold, Mr. Collins (any relation to Larry Collins?) Hmmm...

That's right, "Wendell", billions are being spent here. Since when is that a bad thing?
