Like It, or Not!

Depreciation, not appreciation, is the true test of love.

I want to go on record as not liking the "Like" emoticon found on all the social networking sites. I also do not like the idea that I am being profiled by anyone other than the CIA. I don't like filling up my online shopping cart and then being expected to do something about it. And, I do not like, at all, the infantile "point and click" experience of "being educated" by the web.

It makes me feel cheap when I hear how much money comes from targeted ads. I see pop-ups everywhere that disgust me. Embedded spyware and performance sensors leave me impotent. Do I "like it"? Yeah, but then again I like bus fumes and root canal work!

No, "Give me love, give me love, give me peace on earth" is my mantra. Like is to window shopping as love is to putting together the display. Like is to social awareness as love is to community action. Like is to appreciation as love is to enthusiasm. Like is to personality as love is to passion. Like, in short, is like kissing your sibling.

"Who do you love?" is not a question to be asked by a company selling golf equipment. Sorry, but love is not for swingers. Love is only for those who can humbly surrender to something or someone undeserving of love. Deserving of worship, devotion and commitment, but not of love - 'cause love is not "Like It". Born of pain and suffering, love is compassion for all those in pain and suffering, whether logged-on or not.

Love, like the peace offered by Christ, is beyond understanding and can only be accepted as, not like, a gift. I can like, even respect, the capacity of a computer's memory, but don't ask me to compare it with facing the-good-book. That's the one I try to be most active in responding, so as to be remembered for all eternity for loving, not liking, the undeserving.
