Obituary: Stella H. Stevenson, 88

She was a founding member of a major Springfield church.

Stella H. (nee Sawicki) Stevenson, 88, a longtime resident of Springfield, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 31, 2013.  Stella was born and raised in the Nicetown section of Philadelphia and attended Simon Gratz High School.  She was the loving daughter of the late Francis and Michalina Sawicki. 

Stella was a devout Catholic and a founding member of Saint Kevin’s Church, and very active with the Ladies Auxiliary, choir, and bowling league. She loved to help out at the church, and anyone that was in need.

Stella worked at Leeds and Northrup in Philadelphia, and Harlee Manor in Springfield, and was a homemaker. She loved to cook, bake, garden, and was an avid Philles fan.  She was devoted to her family, and enjoyed the time they spent together.  Stella was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  She was married to the late Albert Stevenson for 53 years, and predeceased by her brothers Edward, Marion, and John Sawicki, sisters Stephie Czaplicki and Sophie Sawicki, cousin Mary Sawicki.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Stevenson Sanislo (Steve), sons Thomas and Gary Stevenson; grandchildren Judy, Stephen and John Sanislo.

Visitation:  Relatives and friends are invited Wednesday, February 6th, 9:30 am at St. Kevin’s Church, 200 West Sproul Road at Thomson Avenue, Springfield, PA 19064, followed by her funeral Mass at 11:00 am.

Interment: SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 S, Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Kevin’s Church at above address.
