4 in 1 Day: Thieves Target Cars in Springfield

Police say all four cases have one thing in common.

 

"Lock your car. Take your keys. Hide your stuff" is the theme of a major public service ad campaign running on radio stations in Pennsylvania this spring.

When it comes to protecting your car there's not much difference between parking at huge public lot, public street or in your own driver. Thieves are out looking for easy targets in driveways and in front of houses in Springfield.

Springfield Police are investigating four reported cases of thieves taking things from vehicle in one day last Friday. In each incident police say the cars were left unlocked.

  • Friday, April 19 8:45 a.m.:

Police say a resident from the Unit Block of School Lane reported that sometime during the night someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole an IPOD from the glove box and a small amount of change while the vehicle was parked on the street in front of the home.

  • Friday, April 19 9:15 a.m.:


Police say "a resident from the 100 Block of Kent Road reported that sometime during the night someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a Garmin GPS Unit and a pair of sunglasses while the vehicle was parked on the street in front of the home."

  • Friday, April 19 9:21 a.m.:


Springfield Police report "a resident from the Unit Block of Schuyler Road reported that sometime during the night someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a twin screen DVD player while the vehicle was parked in the driveway of the home."

  • Friday, April 19 3:07 p.m.:


According to police "a resident from the Unit Block of Schuyler Road reported that sometime during the night someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a black leather wallet with credit cards while the vehicle was parked in the driveway of the home. The investigation showed that the credit cards had been used at local stores before the victim could cancel them."
