Blotter: CD Thefts Prompt Police Chase

Plus: A thief or thieves target a Springfield swimming pool.

Retail Theft—Target in the 800 block of Baltimore Pike at about 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 2. Target Security reported that a man was in the store attempting to leave without paying for two CDs. The man was leaving the store as Sgt. David Welsh arrived at the lower level entrance and fled on foot upon seeing the arrival of the officer. After a brief chase the man was apprehended after falling to the ground in the 900 block of E. Woodland Ave.

The man was identified by store employees, taken into custody, and transported to the Springfield Police Station. The 30-year-old Glen Mills man was charged with disorderly conduct and retail theft in connection with taking $32.99 worth of merchandise from the store.

The incident is under investigation by Detective Bridget McCarthy.

Stolen Property—Unit block of Shelburne Road at about 6:23 p.m. on Oct. 3. The resident reported that sometime during the night someone stole a pool pump and motor for his swimming pool located in the rear yard of his home. The items were valued in excess of $325, according to police.
