Thanksgiving Day Crash Results in DUI Arrest

Also in the Police Blotter: a woman is charged in connection with an expensive theft at Macy's.

The following information was supplied by the Springfield Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

DUI—the intersection of State Road and Collins Drive at about 8:33 a.m. on Nov. 22. Springfield Police responded to a vehicle crash and Patrolman Joseph O'Berg arrived to find a two vehicle crash with no injuries. Further investigation showed one of the drivers, Ryan Kay, 29, of Philadelphia, to be intoxicated. He was taken to Springfield Hospital, had blood drawn, and was then transported to the Springfield Police Station. Kay was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and other related motor vehicle violations. He was later released to a relative. The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.

Retail Theft—Macy's at the Springfield Mall at about 4:07 p.m. on Nov. 20. Store security reported that they had a woman in custody in connection with a retail theft at the store. Patrolman Stephen Hurwitz responded and took Trevida Johnson, 24, of Philadelphia into custody and transported her to the Springfield Police Station. Johnson was charged with receiving stolen property and retail theft in connection with taking $628.39 worth of merchandise from the store. Detective Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.
