Blotter: Car Thief Attempts to Steal Van

Plus: Someone took coins and prescription meds from an unlocked truck parked in a resident's driveway.

The following information was supplied by the Springfield Police Department. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Attempted Car Theft—700 block of S. Chester Road at about 9:56 a.m. on Dec. 31. A Swarthmore business reported that sometime during the weekend someone attempted to steal one of their Dodge Caravans while it was parked in the lot of the Shopping Center. The investigation showed that the front passenger's side window had been smashed out and the locks on both of the front doors had been tampered with. Entry was made to the van and the ignition system was damaged.

Retail Theft—The Giant Food Store in the 700 block of W. Sproul Road at about 3:22 p.m. on Dec. 31. The store reported that they had a man in custody for a retail theft at the store. Patrolman Jeffrey Shull responded and took a 57-year-old Clifton Heights man into custody and transported him to the Springfield Police Station. He was issued a citation for retail theft for allegedly  taking $39.98 worth of merchandise from the store. Detective Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.

Stolen Property—1000 block of Crozer Lane at about 9:32 a.m. on Jan. 4. A resident reported that sometime during the night someone entered his unlocked truck and stole a large amount of coins and prescription medications while the truck was parked in the driveway of the home.
