Blotter: Multiple Retail Thefts at Area Stores

Police made several arrests in connection with retail thefts at Macy's, Target and Giant Food Store.

The following information was supplied by the Springfield Police Department. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Retail Theft—Macy's at the Springfield Mall at about 7:16 p.m. on Dec. 3. Store security reported that they had a woman in custody for a retail theft at the store. Patrolman Stephen Hurwitz responded and took a 20-year-old Philadelphia woman into custody and transported her to the Springfield Police Station. She was charged with retail theft in connection with taking $208 worth of merchandise from the store and receiving stolen property. Detective Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.

Retail Theft—Macy's at the Springfield Mall at about 3:52 p.m. on Dec. 4. Store security reported that a black man fled the store without paying for five winter jackets. Patrolman Joseph Prendergast responded and spoke with security who reported that the man dropped the bags that contained the jackets as security was attempting to apprehend him. The area was checked but the man was gone. The jackets were valued at $580. No one was injured during the incident.

Retail Theft—Giant Food Store in the 700 block of W. Sproul Road at about 5:39 p.m. on Dec. 4. The store reported that a white man and a white woman fled the store without paying for a quantity of meats and several packs of razors. The two fled the parking lot in a 1990's Ford vehicle. The area was checked but the two people and the vehicle were gone. The stolen items were valued in excess of $150.

Retail Theft—Target in the 800 block of Baltimore Pike at about 4:22 p.m. on Dec. 9. Store security reported that they had a woman in custody for retail theft at the store. Patrolman Jeffrey Shull responded and took a 41-year-old Folsom woman into custody and transported her to the Springfield Police Station. She was charged with retail theft for taking $129.49 worth of merchandise from the store. Detective Bridget McCarthy is handling the investigation.

Patrolman Daniel Boyd responded and took a 22-year-old Clifton Heights woman into custody and transported her to the Springfield Police Station. She was charged with retail theft in connection with taking $306 worth of merchandise from the store. Detective Bridget McCarthy is handling the investigation.
