Neighbor Scares Off Attempted Bike Thief

However, days later a bike was stolen from another resident's shed, police say.

The following information was supplied by the Springfield Police Department. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Attempted Theft—900 block of Sara Drive at about 12:35 p.m. on Feb. 1. A resident reported seeing an older white man attempting to steal a bike from a shed in the rear yard of a home. An investigation showed that the man was seen knocking on the front odor of the home and received no answer. The man then entered the unlocked shed and attempted to remove a bike. A neighbor yelled at the man who then left the area on foot. The area was checked but the man was gone. Nothing was taken from the shed.
