Blotter: Target Employee Charged with Stealing $700 from Register

The following information was supplied by the Springfield Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Retail Theft—Target in the 800 block of Baltimore Pike at about 9:17 p.m. on Sept. 26. Target security observed a young man in the store who was cutting tags off merchandise with a knife and placing the merchandise into a back pack, according to police. Police officers entered the store, located the man and his back pack and a search of the back pack showed $272.06 worth of stolen merchandise, according to police. The 17-year-old Morton man was taken into custody and transported to the Springfield Police Station. He will be petitioned to juvenile court in Media and charged with retail theft, possession of instruments of crime and disorderly conduct, according to police. He was later released to a relative. The incident is under investigation by Detective Daniel McNeely.

Retail Theft—Target in the 800 block of Baltimore Pike at about 3:02 p.m. on Sept. 27. Target Security reported that they had a woman in custody in connection with a retail theft at the store. Patrolman Michael Kingsbury responded to the scene and took Samantha Ferguson, 20, of Prospect Park into custody and transported her to the Springfield Police Station. Ferguson was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property in connection with taking $314.84 worth of merchandise from the store. The incident is under investigation by Detective Daniel McNeely. 

Theft By Unlawful Taking—Target in the Springfield Mall at about 8:13 p.m. on Sept. 28. Target Security reported that they had a female employee in custody in connection with stealing cash from her cash register station on 10 different occasions. Patrolman Andrew Graff responded to the scene and took Jennifer Glatthorn, 31, of Philadelphia, into custody and transported her to the Springfield Police Station. Graff was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property in connection with taking a total of $700 in cash from the store. Detective Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.
