Blotter: Woman Charged in Macy's Retail Theft

Plus: Cash was taken from an unlocked vehicle.

The following information was supplied by the Springfield Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Retail Theft—Macy's Store at about 7:54 p.m. on Nov. 15. Store Security reported that they had a woman in custody in connection with a retail theft at the store. Patrolman Stephen Hurwitz responded and an investigation showed that the woman had knocked over a display while she was fleeing from the store. Aisha Smith, 23, of Upper Darby, was taken into custody and was transported to the Springfield Police Station. Smith was charged with harassment, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and retail theft for allegedly taking $270 worth of merchandise from the store. No one was injured during the incident. The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.

Theft—Springfield Inn parking lot in the 400 block of Baltimore Pike at about 6 p.m. on Nov. 15. A Springfield resident reported that a black man was observed entering her unlocked vehicle and taking a small amount of cash from her purse while the vehicle was parked in the lot. The man was seen fleeing the area on foot. The area was checked but he was gone.
