Grocery Store Reports Two Thefts in One Hour

Springfield police arrest two people suspected of robbing the same popular supermarket within an hour of each other.

 

Springfield Police are investigating two cases of retail theft reported within less an hour of each other at the Giant Supermarket on Sproul Road.

According to Springfield Police, the first case happened on Feb. 19 at 2:44 p.m. According to police, Springfield Patrolman Nicholas Paytas responded to a call from Giant's security department and the investigation showed that a 33-year-old Philadelphia man attempted to run from the store before being caught by store security.

Springfield police say "he was issued a citation for Retail Theft for taking $107.10 worth of merchandise from the store and Disorderly Conduct."

The second case was reported at 3:22 on Feb. 19, just 38 minutes later, at the same Giant.

Springfield police cited a 42-year-old Philadelphia woman with Retail Theft for taking $59.96 worth of merchandise from the store. No further details were released in the second case, which is being investigated by Springfield Detective Robert Nutley.
