Police Blotter Aug. 29-Sept. 1: Juveniles Charged In Construction Site Vandalism

A 14 year-old juvenile male and a 13-year-old juvenile male, both from Springfield, will be Petitioned To Juvenile Court in Media and charged with multiple counts of Criminal Mischief & Criminal Trespass.

Rocks Tossed Through Windshields

A business owner from the 1200 block of E. Woodland Avenue reported Aug. 29 at 9:32 a.m. that sometime during the weekend someone damaged one of his work vehicles by throwing rocks through its windshield. The vehicle was parked in the lot adjacent to the SEPTA train tracks.

Nail Salon Burglarized

The salon in the 400 block of Baltimore Pike reported that sometime between 4p.m. on Aug. 27 and Aug. 30 at 9:15 a.m. someone forcibly entered the business through the rear door. Once inside the actor(s) ransacked the front desk area and stole a computer and the cash drawer. A video surveillance system was also taken from the rear storage room. Another computer and computer tower were taken from a workstation. The incident is under investigation by Detective Bridget McCarthy.

Price Tag Altering Lands Theft Charge

’s security reported Aug. 30 at 11:11 a.m. that they had a male in custody for altering price tags on merchandise and then attempting to purchase the items at a lower price. Jonathan Vattima, 25, of the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue in Prospect Park was taken into custody and transported to the He was charged with Retail Theft for taking $360 worth of merchandise. Detective Bridget McCarthy is handling the investigation.

Cash Stolen from Business

On Aug. 30 at 12:31 p.m., hair salon in the 300 block of Baltimore Pike reported that sometime between 4 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 29 someone entered the business and stole cash from the cash register. There were no signs of forced entry to the business. The incident is under investigation by Detective Bridget McCarthy.

Vehicle Window Smashed

On Aug. 30 an Aldan resident reported that sometime between 2:45 p.m. and 3:28 p.m. someone shattered the driver’s window on her vehicle while it was parked in the lot of the in the 400 block of Baltimore Pike.

Bottle Smashed on Vehicle

A Springfield resident reported Aug. 31 at that sometime between 7 a.m. and 6:13 p.m. someone broke a glass bottle over the roof of his vehicle while it was parked in the municipal lot on Powell Road. The roof suffered significant scratching.

Employee Charged with Theft

On Aug. 31 at 3:08 p.m. Best Buy’s security reported that they had a male employee in custody for stealing an iPod from a cabinet in the warehouse portion of the store. Patrolman Joseph O’Berg responded and took Vincent Mosley, 21, of the 200 block of Laurel Road in Sharon Hill into custody and transported him to the Springfield Police Station. He was charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking for removing $299.99 worth of merchandise from the store. He is also under investigation for other similar thefts at the store. The incident is under investigation by Detective Daniel McNeely.

Customer's Wallet Stolen While Shopping

On Aug. 31 at 8:20 p.m., a Springfield resident reported that sometime between 7:30 p.m. and the time of the report someone stole her wallet from her pocketbook while she was shopping at the in the 1200 block of E. Woodland Avenue. The wallet contained various forms of identification, credit cards and a large amount of cash.

Juveniles Charged In Construction Site Vandalism

Sept. 1 at 9:12 a.m. the contractor for the Coventry Woods housing development in the 100 block of N. Hillcrest Road reported that over several days there have been several incidents of vandalism to the homes under construction including rocks thrown through windows, acid being sprayed in the home and, on one occasion, a small fire had been set. He had a description of the actors involved through video surveillance. At 4:01 p.m. the contractor called to report that the actors were back in the area. Patrolman Michael Kingsbury responded and when the actors observed the officer, they attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended. The youths were taken into custody and transported to the Springfield Police Station. A 14 year-old juvenile male and a 13-year-old juvenile male, both from Springfield, will be Petitioned To Juvenile Court in Media and charged with multiple counts of Criminal Mischief & Criminal Trespass. Both of the actors were later released to a relative. The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.
