Police Blotter: DUI, Drug Possession, Public Drunkenness, Retail Theft

Two male juveniles, both 17 years of age from Springfield, were located sitting in the road on the median on W. Sproul Road. Both thought it would be "funny" to eat in the middle of the road.

Retail Theft Charge

security reported they had an alleged shoplifter in custody on Dec. 5 at 12:39 p.m. John Enright, 23, from Aldan, was observed by store security in the men’s department allegedly selecting merchandise and concealing the items in a bag. He was detained after reportedly attempting to leave the store. Enright was arrested and charged with Retail Theft.  Det. James Devaney is handling the investigation.

This Little Light of Mine

On Dec. 5 at 12:44 p.m. a resident of the 200 block of Ballymore Road reported that sometime overnight a decorative Christmas lantern was stolen from the front of her residence.

Over $3,000 Charged to Stolen Credit Cards

A patron of the reported Dec. 5 at 2:30 p.m. that her credit cards were stolen. She said that on Dec. 4 she visited the store and during her visit, an unknown actor removed several credit cards from her wallet.  Over $3,000 was fraudulently charged. Det. James Devaney is handling the investigation.

Vehicle Keyed on Barbara Drive

A resident of the 100 block of Barbara Drive reported Dec. 6 around 10 a.m. that sometime over the weekend her vehicle was vandalized. The vehicle was keyed along the driver’s side resulting in $1,200 in damage.

Internal Employee Theft Reported

The store reported an internal employee theft Dec. 6 at 4:49 p.m. Store security initiated an investigation of the employee, Christine Ladson, 20, from Secane. Ladson was suspected of ringing up merchandise, providing it to the customer then voiding the sales. Several incidents allegedly occurred between Nov. 12 and Dec. 12 resulting in a loss of $2,007.97. Ladson was arrested and charged with Retail Theft.  Det. Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.

Employee Suspected of Stealing

reported an employee theft Dec. 7 at 11:35 a.m. The employee is suspected of numerous thefts from the business totaling over $12,000.  Detective Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.

Thefts from Unlocked Vehicles

A resident of the 400 block of Wheatsheaf Road reported Dec. 7 at 12:10 p.m. a theft had occurred from two of her vehicles. She reported that sometime overnight, someone entered both of her unsecured vehicles parked in her driveway. Stolen were an iPod, two DVDs, a Wii video game and about $20 in loose change.

Purse Snatched at Macy's

A Springfield resident shopping at in the reported Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. that her purse was stolen. She said she had set her purse down while trying on clothing in the women’s department. Within minutes, her purse was missing. Purse contents included a wallet containing three credit cards, a bank debit card, her PA driver's license, her nursing license and $60 in cash. A personal checkbook was also in the purse.

Purse Stolen from Workstation

A student at the reported her pocketbook stolen from her workstation on Dec. 7 at 3:23 p.m. Contents included credit cards, PA driver’s license, medication and $100 in cash.

Employee Charged with Retail Theft

in Springfield Mall reported a retail theft Dec. 8 at 5:52 p.m. The store manager stated that a black male and black female were shopping together in the store and the female was observed with a large plastic bag concealed in her purse. As the couple exited the store, the male now had the plastic bag, which appeared to contain merchandise. The security alarm activated as they left. Employees reported 20 bras and 10 panties stolen totaling $1,267.50.  Det. Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.

Employee Admits to Theft

Macy’s in the mall reported a retail theft Dec. 9 at 12:11 a.m. Store security observed an employee, Dionna Parker, 22, of Philadelphia, allegedly under-ring a sale by placing multiple items into a shopping bag and then charging the customer for only one small item. The customer walked out of the store without paying for the merchandise in the bag. Security spoke with Parker after the incident and she admitted that the customer was her sister and both had been involved in the theft. She also admitted to handing out merchandise to other family members since October of 2011. The thefts totaled $1,105. Parker was charged with Retail Theft.  Det. James Devaney is handling the investigation.

Vehicle Window Smashed at SEPTA Station

A vehicle owner parked his car in the lot at Church Road Park Dec. 9 and took the SEPTA train to work. When he returned, he discovered the driver’s side window was smashed.  Nothing was reported missing.

Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?

Officer Andrew McKinney responded to the 700 block of W. Sproul Rd for a report of two subjects on the highway creating a hazardous condition Dec. 10 at 1:46 a.m. Two male juveniles, both 17 years of age from Springfield, were located sitting in the road on the median with a large amount of food on the ground around them. Both thought it would be “funny” to eat in the middle of the road.  Officer McKinney detected signs that both juveniles were under the influence of a controlled substance. One of the juveniles had a bag of marijuana and a glass smoking-pipe in his possession. Both were arrested and later released to their parents.  One juvenile was cited for Public Drunkenness, Disorderly Conduct and Curfew Violation. The other will be petitioned to juvenile court for Drug Possession, Drug Paraphernalia and related offenses.

Vehicle Crashes Into Mailbox

Police received a report of a hit and run accident involving property damage Dec. 10 at 8:42 a.m. The investigation showed an unknown vehicle struck the street sign, stop sign and a mailbox located near the corner of S. Norwinden Drive and Lynbrooke Road. The striking vehicle appeared to be traveling north toward Springfield Road when the accident occurred.

Disgruntled Employee Arrested

The manager of the Empire Beauty School reported an intoxicated student causing a disturbance Dec. 10 at 9:08 a.m. Officer Joseph Prendergast responded and made contact with David Scott, 24, of Darby. Scott was upset and yelling in the school because his cell phone had been stolen. Scott was allegedly intoxicated and was placed under arrest.  He was charged with Public Drunkenness and Disorderly Conduct.

Potty Knocked Over

Sometime overnight Dec. 10, the portable restroom located at , 400 Lynbrooke Road, was knocked over spilling the contents on the property.

Realtor Sign Damaged

A realtor reported damage to his Long & Foster real estate sign located on a property in the 200 block of School Lane. The sign was placed on Dec. 7 and discovered uprooted on Dec. 10.  The replacement cost was estimated at $50.

Resident Charged with DUI After Accident

Officer Andrew McKinney responded to the 600 block of E. Leamy Ave. for a three-car accident Dec. 10 at about 6 p.m. While conducting his investigation, one of the driver’s, a 65-year-old resident of Springfield, was found to be allegedly intoxicated. Hope was arrested and charged with DUI and later released to a relative. Sgt John DiTrolio is handling the investigation.

Suspects Flee with Stolen Merchandise

The reported a retail theft Dec. 10 at 6:38 p.m.  The store manager observed a black male and black female remove several Vera Bradley bags from the shelves and leave the store without paying for them. The suspects entered a dark colored sedan and fled the area.  Seven bags were stolen, worth a total of $400.

Woman Charged with Retail Theft

The store in the mall reported a suspect was in custody for retail theft Dec. 10 at 7:56 p.m. Pamela Richardson, 49, of Wilmington, Del. was allegedly concealing ten pieces of clothing valued at $234.50. She was arrested and charged with Retail Theft.  Sgt John DiTrolio is handling the investigation.

DUI and Drug Possession Charges

While on patrol Dec. 10 at 11:52 p.m., Officer Andrew McKinney observed an occupied vehicle parked in the middle of the parking lot at the located on Sproul Road. Contact was made with the driver, a 23-year-old, of Springfield. The driver reportedly showed signs of intoxication, was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DUI. A search of the vehicle revealed a clear sandwich bag of marijuana in the glove box. The driver was charged with DUI and Drug Possession. Sgt. John DiTrolio is handling the investigation.

Man Charged with Retail Theft, Public Drunkenness

The store reported a suspect was in custody for retail theft Dec. 11 at about 3:30 p.m. Stephen Kattes, 52, of Philadelphia, was allegedly removing batteries from a sealed package and attempting to leave the store. Loss Prevention officers detained the suspect, who was suspected to be intoxicated. Kattes was arrested and charged with Retail Theft and Public Drunkenness.
