Police Blotter: Gunman Tries To Enter Home; Burglars Find House Key In Unlocked Vehicle

A man displayed a handgun and attempted to forcibly enter the victim's home, police report.

Deal Is A Steal

A Sharon Hill resident reported that sometime between 2p.m. and 3:14 p.m. Jan. 9 someone stole a coupon book from her pocketbook while she was shopping in the in the 700 block of W. Sproul Rd. The victim did not realize that the book was missing until she got home.

Man Charged with Retail Theft

security in the reported Jan. 9 at 4:20 p.m. that they had a male in custody for retail theft at the store. Patrolman Joseph O’Berg responded and took Chadrick Parker, 20, of the 500 block of Poplar Street in Sharon Hill into custody and transported him to the Springfield Police Station. He was issued a citation for Retail Theft for allegedly taking $115.34 worth of merchandise from the store. Detective James Devaney is handling the investigation.

Computer Display Stolen

The in the 1100 block of Baltimore Pike reported Jan. 9 at 4:58 p.m. that sometime around 3:45 p.m. a black male was observed stealing computer hard drives from a display in the store. The male fled the store prior to police arrival. The items are valued more than $350.

Goodbye Door Glass  

in the Springfield Mall reported Jan. 10 at 8:47 p.m. that sometime during the night someone broke a pane of glass on the entrance door to the restaurant. No entry had been gained to the business.

Receiving Stolen Property

security reported Jan. 10 at 5:23 p.m. that they had a female in custody for retail theft at the store. Patrolman Joseph O’Berg responded and took Sharon Rutledge, 48, of the 300 block of Darby Terrace in Darby, into custody and transported her to the Springfield Police Station. She was charged with Retail Theft for allegedly taking $587.96 worth of merchandise from the store and Receiving Stolen Property. Detective James Devaney is handling the investigation.

Burglars Steal Cash

A resident from the 200 block of N. Rolling Road reported Jan. 12 at 4:52 p.m. that sometime between 9 a.m. and the time of the report someone forcibly entered her home and stole a large amount of cash. The window was forced open to make entry on the side porch of the home. Once inside the actor(s) stole the cash from a metal box that was located in a bedroom on the second floor.  The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.

Security Targets Theft

security in the Springfield Mall reported Jan. 12 at 7:46 p.m. that they had a female in custody for retail theft at the store. Patrolman Stephen Hurwitz responded and took Erica Dawson, 18, of the 100 block of E. 24th Street in Chester, into custody and transported her to the Springfield Police Station. She was charged with Retail Theft for allegedly taking $197.11 worth of merchandise from the store. Detective Bridget McCarthy is handling the investigation.

Gunman Tries to Enter Residence 

A resident from the 1000 block of Mt. Holyoke Place reported Jan. 13 at 7:54 p.m. that a black male just attempted to forcibly enter her home. Officers responded and the investigation showed that the victim heard a knock at her front door and when she opened the door a black male asked if someone with a different name than the victim was at the home. The victim replied no. The man then displayed a handgun and attempted to forcibly enter the home. The victim was able to push the actor away from the door. The man entered a silver colored SUV and fled the area. The area was checked but the actor and vehicle were gone. The incident is under investigation by Detective Bridget McCarthy. No one was injured during the incident.

DUI at State and Collins

Springfield police were advised of a reckless driver in the area of S. State Road and Collins Drive on Jan. 13 at 11:33 p.m. Patrolman Dennis McPartland arrived and located the vehicle. The investigation showed that the operator, Gerald Gontz, 36, of the 3800 block of Patrician Drive in Philadelphia was allegedly intoxicated. He reportedly refused to have blood drawn and was transported to the Springfield Police Station. He was charged with Driving Under The Influence Of Alcohol and related Motor Vehicle Violations. The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.

Storefront Window Smashed

The MAB paint store on Baltimore Pike reported Jan. 14 at 6:44 a.m. that sometime during the night someone smashed out a large front glass window on the store. It did not appear as if anyone had entered the store.

Bank Tube Damaged

The Alliance Bank in the 100 block of Saxer Avenue reported Jan. 14 at 2:19 p.m. that sometime over the last few days someone damaged the tube that sends items from the drive-in window into the bank.

Display Panties Stolen

The store in the Springfield Mall reported Saturday Jan. 14 at 4:48 p.m. that sometime between 3:30 p.m. and the time of the report someone stole 119 pairs of women’s panties from a display in the front of the store. The items are valued in excess of $1,300.

Burglars Find House Key In Unlocked Vehicle

A resident from the 600 block of Andrew Road reported Jan. 15 at 7:53 a.m. that someone had entered the home during the night and stole an iPad, laptop computer and a digital camera. The investigation showed that the actor(s) entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway and removed the house keys from the center console. The actor(s) used the key to enter the home and take the items. All of the items were located on the first floor and nothing else was disturbed. The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.

Burglars Steal Handbag, Jackets

A resident from the 900 block of Westfield Drive reported Jan. 15 at about 10 a.m. that sometimes during the night someone entered the home through an unlocked rear kitchen door. Once inside the actor(s) stole the victim’s handbag and two jackets from a chair in the dining room. Nothing else was disturbed. The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.

Coats Lifted from Macy’s

Macy’s security reported that sometime between noon and 12:36 p.m. two black males fled the store with a large quantity of coats from a display rack. The coats are valued in excess of $2,000.

Keys Stolen from Unlocked Vehicle

A resident from the 600 block of Andrew Road reported Jan. 15 at 7:34 p.m. that sometime during the night someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a set of work keys while the vehicle was parked in the driveway of the home.

Rx Stolen from Vehicle In Garage

A resident from the 400 block of Kerr Lane reported that sometime between 11:45 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 someone entered his vehicle and stole prescription medication while the vehicle was parked in the garage.
