Police Blotter May 9-15: DUI; Bike, Retail and Credit Card Thefts

Here is the weekly police blotter compiled by Springfield Township Police Department Record Supervisor Robert J. Woolson.

5-9-11 at 1:47 p.m. Stolen Wallet, Identity Theft

A Wallingford resident reported that sometime between 5p.m. and 5:35 p.m. May 8 someone stole the wallet from her purse while she was eating at the Carrabba’s Italian Grill in the Springfield Mall. The victim realized that the wallet was missing when she went to pay the dinner bill. The wallet contained various forms of identification, cash and credit cards. Further investigation showed that the credit cards had been used at various local stores before the victim could cancel them.

 5-10-11 at 5:30 p.m. Baby Formula Stolen

The Genuardi’s Market in the 900 block of Baltimore Pk. reported that sometime between 5:10 p.m. and the time of the report a black male stole two carriers filled with cans of baby formula from the store. The male entered a Blue Kia and exited the lot onto Baltimore Pk. The area was checked but the actor and vehicle were both gone. The merchandise is valued in excess of $400.

 5-11-11 at 8:53 p.m. Charged Cell Phone Taken

A Chester resident reported that sometime between 8 p.m. and the time of the report someone stole her Samsung Vibrant cellular phone while she was working in the Victoria Business Center in the 1400 block of Baltimore Pk. The phone was being charged in the employees break room.

5-11-11 at 11:11 p.m. Retail Theft Leads to Multiple Charges

Macy’s Security reported that they had a female in custody for Retail Theft at the store. Ptlm. Dennis McPartland responded and took Catherine Greller, 35, of the 800 Blk. of Windemere Rd. in Drexel Hill into custody and transported her to the Springfield Police Station. The investigation showed that she used the credit card of another person to attempt to purchase merchandise and later stole other items of clothing from the store as well. When the actor was searched she was also found to be possession of suspected narcotics. She was charged with Retail Theft for taking $438.98 worth of merchandise from the store, Receiving Stolen Property, Forgery, Theft By Deception, Identity Theft, and Violations Of The Health & Safety Act. The incident is under investigation by Detective Daniel McNeely.

 5-12-11 at 9:26 p.m. Car Rear Window Smashed

A resident from the 300 Blk. of Bennett Rd. reported that sometime between 8:30 p.m. and the time of the report someone smashed out the rear window of her vehicle while it was parked on the street in front of the home.

5-13-11 at 3:42 p.m. Credit Cards Taken, Used

A Wallingford resident reported that during the afternoon on May 11th someone stole two credit cards from her wallet while she was at Panera Bread in the 1000 Blk. of Baltimore Pk. The victim did not realize that the theft had taken place until credit card companies notified her of unusual card activities at various local stores.

5-13-11 at 7:15 p.m. Bicycles Taken from Home

A resident from the 200 block of Hillview Drive reported that sometime over the last few days someone stole two Road Master boys’ bikes that had been left unsecured on the side of his home.

5-14-11 at 2:26 a.m. Reckless Driving, Violations, DUI

While on patrol in the area of Baltimore Pk. and Woodland Ave. Ptlm. Patrick McKenna observed a vehicle driving in a reckless manner. The vehicle was stopped and the operator, Scott Hafele, 24, of the 200 Blk. of Folsom Ave. in Folsom, was found to be intoxicated. He was taken to Springfield Hospital, had blood drawn, and was then transported to the Springfield Police Station. He was charged with Driving Under The Influence Of Alcohol and various Motor Vehicle Violations. He was later released to a relative. The incident is under investigation by Detective Daniel McNeely. 

5-14-11 at 10:30 a.m. Bikes Stolen from Unlocked Home Porch

A resident from the Unit Blk. of Wayne Ave. reported that sometime during the night someone stole his Huffy boys bike from the unlocked front porch of his home.

5-15-11 at 2 p.m. Copper Downspouts Stolen

A resident from the 200 Blk. of N. Rolling Rd. reported that sometime during the night someone stole two copper downspouts from the front of his home.

5-15-11 at 2:09 p.m. Credit Cards Stolen, Used

A Lester resident reported that sometime on Friday May 13 someone stole her wallet from her purse while she was working at the Pacific Sunwear Store in the Springfield Mall. The wallet contained cash and credit cards. The victim was notified that numerous purchases had been made with the credit cards at various local stores before the victim realized that the cards had been stolen. The incident is under investigation by Detective Daniel McNeely.

 5-15-11 at 3:01 p.m. Credit Cards Stolen, Used

 A Springfield resident reported that sometime between 1p.m. and 1:30 p.m. someone stole three cards from her wallet while she was at Panera Bread in the 1000 Blk. of Baltimore Pk. The cards had been used at various local stores before the victim could cancel them. The incident is under investigation by Detective Daniel McNeely.

 5-15-11 at 3:39 p.m. Juvenile Retail Theft

Best Buy’s Security reported that they had a young male in custody for Retail Theft at the store. Ptlm. Andrew McKinney responded and took a 13-year-old juvenile from Yeadon into custody and transported him to the Springfield Police Station. He was issued a citation for Retail Theft for taking $19.99 worth of merchandise from the store. He was later released to a relative. The incident is under investigation by Detective Daniel McNeely.
