Police Blotter: Numerous Reports of Retail Theft, Vehicle Windows Shattered

Several stores reported retail theft and several residents reported items stolen from vehicles.

Bicycle Stolen

A Springfield youth reported March 5 that sometime between 6 p.m. and 6:26 p.m. someone stole his grey colored boy’s BMX Diamondback bike from the bleacher area at on Powell Rd. The bike is valued more than $500.

ATM Card Stolen, Used

A New Castle, Del. resident reported March 6 at 2:16 p.m. that on March 4 she used her ATM card to withdraw cash from the machine at the in the . She withdrew the cash and forgot to take her card with her. The investigation showed that another transaction occurred on the same machine immediately following. The card had also been used as a credit card for a purchase in the mall. The total loss is valued more than $500.

Man Charged with Retail Theft

’s security reported March 7 at 12:52 p.m. that they had a male in custody for retail theft at the store. Patrolman Joseph Prendergast responded and took Durel Williams, 21, of the 600 block of Andrews Avenue in Collingdale, into custody and transported him to the Springfield Police Station. He was issued a citation for retail theft for allegedly taking $149.96 worth of merchandise from the store. Detective Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.

Alleged Retail Theft at Best Buy

Best Buy’s security reported March 8 at 10:32 a.m. that they had a male in custody for retail theft at the store. Patrolman Andrew Graff responded and took Christopher Geddes, 37, of Wyncliffe Avenue in Clifton Heights into custody and transported him to the Springfield Police Station. He was charged with retail theft for allegedly taking $99.97 worth of merchandise from the store. Detective Sgt. John DiTrolio is handling the investigation.

Target Reports $3k Retail Theft

security in the Springfield Mall reported March 8 at 3:43 p.m. that they observed two females exit the store with shopping carts full of unpaid merchandise. They were observed entering a blue vehicle that exited the mall onto Baltimore Pike. A description was broadcast for responding units and a short time later Morton Police reported observing the vehicle in the parking lot of Famous Dave’s on E. Woodland Ave. Dwanda James, 32, of the 6000 block of Buist Avenue in Philadelphia and Latoya Parker, 26, of the 3800 block of Wyalusing Avenue in Philadelphia were identified by store employees as the actors involved, taken into custody, and transported to the Springfield Police Station. They were charged with retail theft for allegedly taking $3,667.24 worth of merchandise from the store, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy. The incident is under investigation by Detective James Devaney.

Kid’s Shoes Walk Off

The store in the 400 block of S. State Road reported that two females left the store without paying for five pairs of children’s shoes March 8 at 6:12 p.m. The area was checked but the actors were gone. The shoes are valued more than $100.

Purse Snatched at Diner

An employee of the reported that sometime between 3 p.m. and 5:13 p.m. on March 9 someone stole her Coach purse from her storage cabinet. The purse contained various personal items as well as house and car keys.

Yard Items Stolen

A resident from the 200 block of Gleaves Road reported March 10 at 9:42 a.m. that sometime during the night someone stole an iron glider and two metal chairs from the rear yard of the home. The items are valued more than $750.

Cell Phones Stolen from Mall Display

The store in the Springfield Mall reported March 10 at 5:37 p.m. that two iPhones were stolen from a display in the front of the store. The phones are valued more than $1,400.

Vehicle Vandalized

On March 11 at 12:06 a.m., a resident from the 300 block of Ballymore Road reported that sometime during the night someone threw numerous eggs at her vehicle while it was parked in the area of the home, damaging the paint.

Vehicle Broken Into, Items Stolen

A resident from the 800 block of Church Road reported March 11 at 9:55 a.m. that sometime during the night someone forcibly entered his work van and stole a quantity of loose change, a Garmin GPS Unit and five gift cards. The window on the passenger’s side of the van was smashed to make entry while it was parked in the driveway of the home.

Vehicle Window Shattered

A resident from the 900 block of Westdale Place reported March 11 at 12:02 p.m. that sometime during the night someone smashed out the driver’s window of his vehicle while it was parked in the driveway of the home.

Expensive Tree Branches Chopped

A resident from the 500 block Prospect Road reported March 11 at 12:37 p.m. that sometime during the night someone cut numerous tree branches of an expensive Japanese maple tree in the front yard of his home.

Vehicle Window Smashed

A resident from the block of Parkview Drive reported March 11 at 3:28 p.m. that sometime during the night someone shattered the windshield of his vehicle while it was parked on the street in front of the home. A large rock was found on the street.
