Springfield to Honor 1st Responders Saturday

Volunteer first responders put in a staggering number of unpaid hours to serve and protect.

 

Elected officials from Springfield will honor members of the Police Department and Springfield Fire Department and Ambulance Corps Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Springfield Township Building. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony.

According to a recorded phone message to township residents from Springfield Police Chief Joe Daly the 21st Annual Loyalty Day event will honor the township's first responders.

According to the robo-call message, Springfield Fire Company 44 members volunteered 13,894 hours of time in 2012. Members of the Springfield Ambulance Corps volunteered a total of 6,746  hours.

"Please show them your appreciation for the sacrifice that they and that their families make for us by giving up an hour of your time to honor and thank them for their amazing contribution to the quality of life we enjoy as residents of Springfield Township," the Police Chief said in the recorded message.
