Arc of Delaware County Hosts Legislative Breakfast

The Arc's Legislative Affairs Committee held a forum for local legislators Oct. 14.

WALLINGFORD – The Arc of Delaware County, which fights for the rights and opportunities for people with disabilities, hosted its Annual Legislative Breakfast for elected officials to update them on issues impacting Delaware County’s citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities Oct. 14. This included briefing local legislators on the necessary funding for the Commonwealth’s enormous waiting list for services, especially how it impacts recent graduates with disabilities and their ability to get job coaches, day program placements, etc.

Featured speakers included Maureen Westcott, public policy advocate for The Arc of Pennsylvania, and Sheila Stasko, statewide coordinator of the PA Waiting List Campaign.

Attendees included State Senator Ted Erickson, State Rep. William Adolph, State Rep. Stephen Barrar, State Rep. Tom Killion, State Rep. Greg Vitali, State Rep. Nick Miccarelli, State Rep. Joe Hackett and State Rep. Maria Donatucci, along with staff members from other elected officials’ offices. Delaware County Council members included Mario Civera, Thomas McGarrigle and John Whelan.

The Arc of Delaware County is a non-profit membership organization that advocates for the rights, opportunities and self-determination of children and adults with developmental disabilities. Its mission is to provide advocacy services for individuals and their families, connect people with resources, improve systems of support and services, promote inclusive community practices and influence public policy.
