Meehan Sworn in for Second Term in U.S. House

Constituents waste no time weighing in on Congress.

U.S. Representative Patrick Meehan (R-PA7) is now officially a second-term Congressman.

Meehan, who lives in Drexel Hill and who represents parts of Delaware, Chester and Montgomery Counties, took the oath of office during swearing-in ceremonies on Capitol Hill Thursday afternoon.

Meehan posted a fairly genetic statement on Facebook shortly after taking the oath. "It is my honor to serve the people of the 7th congressional district for a second term," the Facebook posting reads. "Every day, I appreciate the great privilege that it is to represent the voice of our district in Congress. Our country is facing many great challenges indeed, and there is much work ahead for the 113th Congress."

Meehan's Facebook followers wasted no time Thursday chiming in with messages of both support and calls for action, especially on taxes and the debt.

One woman posted:  "I for one appreciate your yea vote for the January 1, 2013, bill. We need to work together ALL PARTIES."

Another echoed a harsh view of Congressional action taken on the so-called fiscal cliff writing: "I just hope that they do, do some work, not like they showed us this past week, where they acted like children. Our employers would not accept this kind of work from us, so why do we accept it from them. It is time to start firing them!"

One commenter on Meehan's Facebook wall has the just-increased social security payroll tax on her mind and asks: "When will someone do something about the 2% payroll tax which will go up because Congress did nothing to address it?"

What do you think should be at the top of the agenda for Rep. Meehan and his colleagues in the new 113th Congress?
