Springfield Political Donations Down Near 2002 Levels

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, a research group that tracks money in U.S. politics, only $46,915 has been donated so far for the 2012 election.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is the top recipient with $8,750 in donations from here.

Although President Barack Obama has a lead over in donations in the Greater Philadelphia area (including parts of New Jersey), Obama has received $6,216 from Springfield.

Donations from the 19064 area reached their peak in 2010, a mid-term election year, with $131,345.

The contributions are based on Federal Election Commission data available electronically on Sept. 21, 2012.
