District Raises Over $8700 for Needy Families
The Springfield School District raised over $8,700 for its Turkey Fund that helps feed families in need over the holidays.
Springfield School District Director of Operations Don Mooney announced that the district’s annual Turkey Fund raised of $8,700 to help feed families in need over the holidays.
“We had a tremendous effort this year,” Mooney said. “It’s the most money we’ve ever raised.”
According to Mooney, the district was able to put together 109 food baskets for needy families in the area, and that they had a surplus of goods that went to a mission in Delaware County.

“The fire company held a can drive in conjunction with our fundraising,” Mooney said. “They brought us six pallets of canned goods.”
Mooney added that after the can goods had been used for the food baskets, four of the original pallets still remained.”

The school district also conducted a coat drive for the holidays, and Mooney reported that as a tremendous success as well.
“We were able to donate 11 bags of coats this year. Last year we collected six.”
