Sophomore Named Student of the Month

Springfield High School sophomore Samira Alhassan named student of the month.

The following is a press release from Springfield School District.

The Springfield School District January Student of the Month is Samira Alhassan a tenth grade student at Springfield High School. Samira is a friendly, outgoing and dedicated student who enjoys a diverse set of activities and courses at Springfield High School. Samira has international roots. She was born in the United States but has spent nine years living overseas in Ghana. She also has family members who live in France and Canada. She is the youngest of her siblings and has a niece in the third grade at Scenic Hills elementary school.

“The best thing about SHS is the amount of choices students have. The diversity in courses, activities and electives makes it so we learn a lot and have fun” said Samira. She has really enjoyed the art classes, French classes and marketing classes she has taken at SHS. Samira is also very involved in extracurricular activities. She is a member of the National Art Honor Society, the Future Business Leaders of America, Community Service Club, Clay Club, Dance-A-THON, Ski Club, REACH Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions and plays on the Cougar tennis and track and field teams. When asked what she wants to do after college, she said, “Design and market my own line of clothes.”  She hasn’t decided on a name for her line of clothes yet but it will definitely include a series of evening gowns she designs and sews herself. No matter the style or name of her clothes line, Samira will certainly be successful at anything she puts her mind to.

The faculty at SHS were quick to share why they think Samira is so special. Anne Marie Laubach, marketing teacher said, “Samira is a delightful young lady. She is always prepared for class and contributes significantly to class discussions. She is kind and respectful to all – She will definitely make a positive difference in this World.” Anne Madden her French teacher added, “It’s a pleasure to see Samira’s bright smile every day. She truly appreciates her education and makes the most of the opportunities here at Springfield.  She is a natural, enthusiastic learner who is a model student, both ambitious and polite, who always commands and gives respect.” Frank McKnight, SHS principal, concluded by saying, “Samira represents herself and our school in such a positive way. In all that she does, both academic and extracurricular, she performs remarkably.” For all these reasons and many more, please help us celebrate Samira Alhassan as the Springfield School District January Student of the Month.
