Viewfinder: First Day of School Picnic

Rainy weather brought the picnic indoors but didn't prevent a gathering of parents and students.

's Tuesday evening was held in 's cafeteria instead of the outdoor stadium due to rainy weather.

Superintendent James Capolupo, school board members and faculty handed out hotdogs, chips, iced tea and lemonade to Springfield and Morton area parents and students of all grades.

Despite the rain, Capolupo said the annual event is a great way for residents to gather and enjoy complimentary food.

The high school marching band was scheduled to perform but the act was cancelled because of limited space in the high school cafeteria.

Heavy rain came down outside but inside a hum of conversation and laughter filled the room as families joined for this year's first day of school picnic.
