The funeral for Bishop Joseph P. McFadden will be held in Harrisburg, but you can watch it online.
Bishop Joseph P. McFadden, known to much of the Cardinal O’Hara family as ‘The Mons,’ will be laid to rest Wednesday in Harrisburg. McFadden died unexpectedly Thursday while attending a meeting of the Catholic Bishops of Pennsylvania being held in Philadelphia. He was serving as tenth Bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg, a position Pope Benedict XVI appointed him to in 2010. McFadden, 65, grew up in Philadelphia and attended St. Joseph’s University and Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood. In 1993, Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua named McFadden the first President of Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield. Bishop Joseph P. McFadden, the first president of Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield, has died at age 65. McFadden was currently serving as a Tenth Bishop of Harrisburg. The Philadelphia native was a graduate of St. Joseph’s University and Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood. McFadden was named President of Cardinal O’Hara by Cardinal Bevilacqua in 1993. “During his tenure as President, the school’s enrollment increased from 1540 students to 2000 students and he helped to initiate the innovative computer “Laptops for Learning” program in the school,” according to McFadden’s biography on the Harrisburg archdiocese website. Former Rep. Bob Edgar served the 7th district for six terms in Congress.
Former Rep. Bob Edgar, who represented the Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District for six terms, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning at his Virginia home. After Congress, the Democrat went on to to lead the National Council of Churches, and became president of Common Cause, a position he still held. Edgar grew up in Springfield and attended public schools, according Congress’ Biographical Directory.
