Going to Extremes for Extreme Deals

Springfield stores have consumers lining up on Thanksgiving..and before for great deals.

The early bird gets the worm.. and the big screen TV for cheap. If you're reading this after 6 a.m. (which you are) you've missed the door buster deals that 'em lining up at the doors long before Thursday night. At Best Buy on Baltimore Pike in Springfield, the first tent went up Wednesday morning at 4. Inside the canvas cottage a rotating band of bargain seekers, including Theresa Bagley of Wallingford who set up the tent, went to work in Media on Wednesday and then came back for the duration. She had help in the form of a rotating group of friends who sustained themselves inside the big white tent with propane-fired heating fans, blankets chairs and stories of retail victories past. Black Friday Guide: Store Hours

To take advantage of the Black Friday deals, you want to make sure you get in the door, while the sale items are still on the shelves, so when do doors open?

Stores across the Philadelphia area are opening early, even as early as Thursday night to start their Black Friday deals. Here are the adjusted hours Patch found: Kohl’s opens at midnight. Kmart opens at 8pm Thursday and stays open through 3am, then reopens at 5am. Target will open at 9 p.m. Thursday. Walmart, Marple Crossroads Shopping Center (Marple Township), 400 S. Patch Poll: Will You Shop on Thanksgiving?

Black Friday begins Thanksgiving evening for many big stores, trying to get a jump on Christmas shopping. Will you go shopping after Thanksgiving dinner?

Back at the turn of the century, Christmas and holiday shopping started in earnest on the day after Thanksgiving. A few years later the big stores, grappling with a downturn in the economy, started opening at midnight and offering "Midnight Madness" deals for people who came in the middle of the night. Now, stores are creating quite a stir by opening even earlier. Many are advertising sales beginning Thanksgiving at 8p.m.  It's not as easy to come up with alliteration for an 8 p.m. store opening. Marple Walmart Gears Up for Black Friday Shopping

The new Walmart at Marple Crossroads Shopping Center will begin its first Black Friday sales at 10 p.m. on Nov. 24.

SPRINGFIELD–Marple Township's new Walmart at the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center in Springfield will hold its first-ever Black Friday sales on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, at 10 p.m. and then at 12 a.m. on Friday morning and again at 8 a.m. The store, which was recently approved by Marple's Zoning Hearing Board, will be open for 24 hours during the Thanksgiving holiday to give shoppers an opportunity to shop early on Black Friday this year. The store's general hours are from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Once the approval was made, Anthony Deni, Marple Walmart's store manager, said associates were excitedly volunteering to work during the overnight hours for the big sales event.
